Dans le Kentucky Derby (Gr.1), Authentic (Into Mishief) le pensionnaire de Bob Baffert dispose du grand favori Tiz The Law (Constitution), effaçant rapidement son mauvais numéro dans les stalles, il s’installe en tête, rejoint à mi tournant par son grand rival. Les deux chevaux se détachent des autres concurrents, et après une âpre lutte Authentic prend le meilleur, passant le poteau avec une longueur et demi d’avance, à distance Mr. Big News (Giant’s Causeway) se classant troisième. Authentic permet à Bob Baffert d’inscrire son nom pour la sixième fois au palmarès, et de devenir co-recordman de victoires dans ce grand classique. John Velazquez remporte lui un troisième Kentucky Derby.
